Where There's Smoke…Oregon Recreational Marijuana Legislation and the Workplace

Photo of Where There

Oregon voters passed Measure 91, which legalizes the use of recreational marijuana to ‎individuals over twenty-one years of age. Oregon employers, especially those in the manufacturing ‎industry, must understand how this new measure affects their workforce so that they can continue ‎to operate in a safe and reasonable manner. Jean Back, a labor and employment attorney at ‎Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt, and a member of the OMEP board of directors, will conduct an ‎hour long webinar for OMEP members to outline an employer's rights and responsibilities with ‎respect to their employees' recreational use of marijuana.

This one hour webinar will include the ‎following topics:‎

  • What Measure 91 regulates and what it does not regulate
  • The impact of Measure 91 on Oregon employment policies and practices, including:‎
    • Drug testing issues
    • Drug testing policies
    • Driving policies
    • Off-hour use
    • Accommodation of use
  • Suggestions for policy review/update.‎ ‎

Please put this webinar on your calendar so that you can ensure that your workplace is ready ‎for the legalization of marijuana, which will occur in July 2015.‎
