Michael Cohen and Peter Heuser, both shareholders in the Portland office of Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt, recently were identified as two of only four attorneys in Oregon to make The World’s Leading Trademark Professionals list by UK-based publication World Trademark Review (WTR).

The World’s Leading Trademark Professionals list represents the top 1,000 legal professionals across the globe. WTR conducted a four-month qualitative research project to compile its list. Its team of full-time analysts conducted more than 1,000 interviews with trademark specialists, both private practice and in-house, in more than 50 key jurisdictions. Interviewees’ opinions were specifically sought on the firms and practitioners that are leading the field in terms of their work, skills and levels of client service.

Cohen focuses his practice in the areas of patent, trademark and copyright licensing; counseling, prosecution, enforcement and litigation of trademark, trade dress, trade secret and copyright rights; technology transfer; IP due diligence for mergers and acquisitions; Internet/e-commerce counseling; domain name and website issues; and entertainment, media and advertising law. Cohen has been recognized by Oregon Super Lawyers magazine in the field of Intellectual Property law each year from 2006-2012, and in 2002 he received the Portland Business Journal’s “Forty Under 40” award recognizing individuals who have shown exceptional achievement in their careers and in their community and civic activities.

Heuser focuses his practice in the areas of patent, trademark, and copyright prosecution and litigation. He has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in jury trials, and has been successful in obtaining major jury verdicts for his clients. Heuser has been repeatedly recognized by Oregon Super Lawyers, in 2012 was named Best Lawyers Copyright Attorney of the Year for Portland and in 2010 was named Best Lawyers Intellectual Property Attorney of the Year for Portland. Heuser graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison with a juris doctor degree.
