Laura Maffei and Jay Waldron, shareholders in the Portland office of Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt, received an “Outstanding Legal Service Award” from Northwest Pulp and Paper (NWPPA).

The award was presented by Chris McCabe, the Executive Director of NWPPA, and Kathryn ‎VanNatta, the Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs at the NWPPA’s 13th annual meeting. ‎The award was for providing more than ten years of outstanding legal service to NWPPA. This is the first time NWPPA has presented an award of this kind.

“For over a decade, Laura and Jay have been there for NWPPA and our members — always providing high quality work,” said VanNatta. “They’ve worked on three different cases during this time involving complicated precedent for water quality issues. This award is NWPPA’s way of saying thank you for a job well done.”

NWPPA represents 13 member companies and 17 paper mills in Washington, Oregon and Idaho. NWPPA members produce nearly eight million tons of paper products a year and provide approximately 10,000 predominantly union jobs that pay an average of more than $70,000 a year in wages and benefits. NWPPA represents its members on legislative and regulatory issues with special emphasis on environmental and energy policy. In addition, NWPPA assists members with permitting issues, offers educational information and provides regulatory updates through the Association’s newsletter, weekly conference calls and committee meetings.
