Summer Associates |
Schwabe,
Williamson & Wyatt often hires new attorneys through its
summer associate program. The program is designed as a time
for careful evaluation and serious consideration of law students
for future employment. It is the firm's desire to extend offers
of employment to all second-year summer associates exhibiting
exceptional work performance.
Schwabe’s Summer Associate Committee consists of attorneys
who are also members of the firm’s Hiring Committee. The
purpose of the committee is to ease the transition into the
firm, as well as provide advice and feedback from completed
assignments and written evaluations. The Summer Associate Committee
provides two formal reviews: one at midsummer and the other
at summer’s end. The Hiring Committee customarily extends
offers to the second-year summer associates in late August.
First-year summer associates are invited to reapply for a second
summer.
Seattle Office Summer Associates
Summer associates in the Seattle office are encouraged to meet
and work with as many Portland attorneys and summer associates
as possible by spending two weeks in the Portland office. Housing
is provided and travel expenses are reimbursed.
Social Opportunities
Summer associates have many opportunities to interact with the
firm's attorneys, including informal lunches, after-work socializing,
parties and softball. Favorite events may include a Seattle
Mariners' game, all-firm picnic, and an outdoor concert. The
surrounding natural environment is an integral part of the Pacific
Northwest lifestyle, and special outings are planned that highlight
the spectacular beauty and unique qualities of the area. Imagine
the panoramic view of the Cascades Range from the rim of Mount
St. Helens, a daylong hike in the Columbia River Gorge Scenic
area, or white-water rafting down the Deschutes River in Central
Oregon.
Compensation
Summer associates earn a salary competitive with other firms
in the area, currently, $1,800 per week. Patent summer associates
currently earn $2,050 per week. Compensation is reviewed on
a regular basis, and adjustments made to remain competitive
with current market rates. Round-trip transportation expenses
to and from Portland and Seattle are reimbursed. |
