Summer associates are assigned projects
that support the firm’s work for its clients, as well as
projects requiring updates on the law, articles and speeches for
continuing legal education purposes. Throughout the summer, opportunities
arise for summer associates to attend client meetings, depositions,
arbitrations, real estate closings, appellate arguments and occasionally
assist with trials. Summer associates are also encouraged to volunteer
with the firm-sponsored pro bono legal clinic.
Summer associates divide their time working on attorney assignments
from one of two sources: (1) the general assignment listing on
the firm's Intranet where they select projects of interest; and
(2) optional assignments obtained through their involvement in
two practice groups of their choosing. Associate liaisons to the
practice groups ease the summer associate's transition into the
group by making introductions, initiating social opportunities
and by matching the summer associate with attorneys who work in
specific areas of interest.
