International Business
Schwabe's International Transactions practice attorneys frequently represent U.S. and offshore clients in:
- cross-border market entry transactions such as joint ventures, entity formations, and mergers and acquisitions that range from the purchase of a single asset, business or company to acquiring multiple assets and companies across many jurisdictions,
- international financings, including cross-border equity and debt offerings,
- advising companies on cross-border structuring and operational issues that arise in the course of international operations, and
- a substantial amount of cross-border intellectual property work including licensing, outsourcing, distribution, patent and trademark prosecution, and strategic IP structuring.
We work with local counsel in many countries to help clients understand and manage risks posed by different legal systems. As a member of the International Alliance of Law Firms (IALF) we work with a broad, established network of foreign associates in addressing our clients' location-specific issues. Our attorneys have substantial sector expertise in a wide variety of industries, such as software and electronics, life sciences, consumer goods, government and military, financial services, real estate, healthcare, insurance, and education.
We have attorneys fluent in Cantonese Chinese, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Russian, and Spanish, and many have spent substantial time practicing law outside the U.S. We are experienced working internationally and counsel our clients on the cultural and legal norms of doing business in various foreign jurisdictions. We help our clients achieve their goals with our team approach and a thorough understanding of their international business needs.
