Professional Experience Katherine VanZanten joined Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt in 2005, bringing her knowledge and experience in such areas as wealth preservation planning and business succession strategies to further enhance the firm's tax and estate planning practice group. Ms. VanZanten is currently the past-chair of the Oregon State Bar tax section for the Oregon. She has significant experience in business planning including developing wealth transfer strategies that include multi-tiered family businesses, qualified residence trusts, charitable remainder trusts and establishing charitable organizations. Ms. VanZanten has an active estate planning practice helping clients plan for their families. Ms. VanZanten regularly advises fiduciaries on their duties with respect to trust and probate administration. Ms. VanZanten works in both the Bend and Portland offices. Before joining Schwabe, she was at the Portland office of Sussman Shank LLP. Professional & Community Activities Ms. VanZanten is a member of the Oregon and Washington State Bar Associations. She serves as the Past-Chair of the Executive Committee of the Oregon State Bar Tax Section and is a member of the legislative committee. In the past, she served on the Joint Committee of the Oregon State Bar and the Oregon Society of CPAs, including having served as its Chair. In 2008, she was selected as a fellow for the Oregon State Bar Leadership College. Ms. VanZanten is actively involved in our community. She serves on the board of the Friends of the Overlook House, is on the finance committee of the Portland Farmers Market, and is a member of Estate Planning Council of Portland. Ms. VanZanten continues to support the Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington Council and served on its Board of Directors from 1999 - 2006.
