Professional Experience
For over 30 years, Mr. Heuser has been an intellectual property lawyer and focuses his practice in the areas of patent prosecution and litigation of patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret, and cybersquatting matters. He has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in jury trials, and has been successful in obtaining major jury verdicts for his clients.
Prior to joining Schwabe, Mr. Heuser was an attorney and president of Kolisch Hartwell, P.C., an intellectual property firm having offices in Portland and Palo Alto.
He has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America as Intellectual Property Lawyer of the Year (2010), Trademark Lawyer of the Year (2011), Copyright Lawyer of the Year (2012), and recently received notice that he has been elected Intellectual Property Litigation Lawyer of the Year (2013) for Portland. He has been repeatedly recognized by Oregon Super Lawyers magazine for his work in Intellectual Property law and has been named to the World's Leading Trademark Professionals list, published by World Trademark Review . Mr. Heuser is a member of the Oregon, California and Idaho Bar Associations and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He has taught intellectual property and related courses at the University of Oregon Law School, has served as Special Master for the United States District Court, is a two-term past president of the Oregon Patent Law Association, and was an officer on the Board of Portland Golf Club. Mr. Heuser also has been recognized as Member of the Year and served as president of the City Club of Portland, and is presently serving on the Board of Planned Parenthood of the Columbia Willamette.
