Professional Experience A licensed captain, David Boyajian focuses his practice on maritime litigation and transactions. He assists vessel owners, operators, and insurers, and shipyards and shipbuilders with maritime contracts and all aspects of claims investigation, management, and resolution. His litigation and arbitration practice involves maritime personal injury matters (Jones Act, Longshore and Harbor Workers' Act, and maintenance and cure), collision and allision cases, cargo claims, vessel arrest and attachment, and other marine insurance and commercial disputes in state and federal courts. His transactional practice involves charters, bills of lading, tariffs, and other maritime contracts. Mr. Boyajian also represents design professionals and contractors in both land-based and marine construction disputes.
Prior to joining Schwabe, Mr. Boyajian practiced with Emard, Danoff, Port, Tamulski & Paetzold, a maritime litigation firm in San Francisco, and was named a "Rising Star" in Transportation and Maritime Law by SuperLawyers Magazine and San Francisco Magazine.
While attending Tulane Law School, Mr. Boyajian served as a Managing Editor of the Tulane Maritime Law Journal. He graduated with a certificate of specialization in maritime law from the Tulane Admiralty Law Center.
Mr. Boyajian is a U.S. Coast Guard licensed Master of Sail, Power, and Assistance Tow vessels. Professional & Community Activities Mr. Boyajian serves on the Board of Directors of the Maritime Commerce Club of the Columbia River. He is a member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States, the American Professional Captains' Association, and US Sailing.
An avid sailor, Mr. Boyajian has worked and volunteered as a sailing instructor and coach and has been involved with several community and adaptive sailing programs including Shake-A-Leg Newport and the US Blind Sailing Team. He fly-fishes enthusiastically, although neither as often nor as well as he would like. When he isn't working, or on or in the water, he can often be found with one of his ukuleles on his lap.
