Professional Experience
Christopher Lewis is a shareholder and the current Practice Group Leader for Schwabe's Intellectual Property Group, which is one of the Northwest's largest Intellectual Property service providers. Mr. Lewis's practice focuses on primarily three areas:

  1. Patent Prosecution – Mr. Lewis has extensive experience with drafting and prosecuting patent applications which have not only issued as patents, but have become key assets to many small and emerging businesses. While Mr. Lewis has worked with a variety of technologies, he has developed particular expertise the mechanical and electro-mechanical arts, including engine technologies, construction equipment, outdoor power equipment, sporting and fitness equipment, micro-electronic devices, and wood processing equipment;
  2. Intellectual Property Litigation - Mr. Lewis has been involved with more than twenty litigation matters filed in the United States District Courts, the vast majority of which have focused on patent related matters. While Mr. Lewis typically helps his clients favorably resolve litigation matters through pretrial motions and/or settlement, recently, Mr. Lewis led a trial team in obtaining a multimillion dollar judgment for his client on a patent infringement matter; and
  3. IP Portfolio building, strategy, and management – Mr. Lewis has had the opportunity to partner with clients and help them obtain and manage a variety of intellectual property assets. Mr. Lewis also regularly advises clients as to potential value added opportunities for a company's IP portfolio, such as royalty based licensing and cross licensing, as well as buying and selling intellectual property assets.

Mr. Lewis has been named a "Rising Star" by Law & Politics magazine, a distinction that recognizes outstanding lawyers who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.

Prior to joining Schwabe, Mr. Lewis worked in Intel Corporation's Corporate Licensing Group, where he assisted in value licensing and patent portfolio management. Mr. Lewis was also a law clerk for the Oregon Department of Justice, Civil Recovery Division in Portland, Oregon, and for the Honorable James R. Michaud, Bonner County District Court, Sandpoint, Idaho. In law school, Mr. Lewis served as the Current Materials Editor for the nationally published journal, Environmental Law.

Professional & Community Activities
Currently, and for the past four years, Mr. Lewis is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College, where he teaches Patent Litigation Strategy. He is also an officer of the Executive Committee for the Oregon State Bar's Intellectual Property Section. Mr. Lewis is active in several organizations, including, the Multnomah Bar Association and the American Bar Association, and he volunteers at the Eastside Legal Clinic, which provides free legal services to low-income minorities.
