Professional Experience
Michael Garone has over 25 years of experience in traditional labor law, employment law and appellate law. He has tried over one hundred labor arbitrations. He has been involved in all aspects of collective bargaining, advising his clients on grievance issues, contract negotiations and the requirements of state and federal law. He has substantial litigation experience in state and federal courts at both the trial and appellate levels during which he has been involved in traditional labor law issues as well as employment law and other issues. He has defended several class action wage and hour lawsuits in both Oregon and Washington as well as class action arbitrations. He has authored numerous briefs and argued many cases to various appellate courts including the Oregon and Washington Court of Appeals, the Oregon Supreme Court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mr. Garone successfully obtained a petition for writ of certiorari and was counsel of record before the Supreme Court of the United States in Hall Street Associates, L.L.C. v. Mattel, Inc. This case was argued in November 2007 and involves a legal issue of national importance in the field of arbitration law.   Mr. Garone serves as head of the firm's Appellate Practice Group.

Drawing on his extensive experience, Mr. Garone brings a fresh and unique insight to the representation of management in labor and employment issues.

Professional & Community Activities
Mr. Garone is the past chair of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the Oregon State Bar, a group of approximately 650 attorneys practicing in these fields. He is the author of a section of the Oregon State Bar's Continuing Legal Education treatise on Private Sector Labor Law. Mr. Garone has been named by Chambers USA as among the top employment law attorneys in the United States, and he is listed in The Best Lawyers in America. He is also a member of the bar of the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
