Katie C. Tank, a shareholder in the Bend office of law firm Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt, was recently named to serve on the board of directors of the Central Oregon Employer Council (COEC). COEC is one of 20 statewide chapters of the Oregon Employer Council (OEC). Members of the 30-year-old nonprofit are the link between businesses, the workforce, and the government. OEC gives a voice to local businesses and citizens by serving as an advisory organization to the Oregon Employment Department. The partnership between OEC and the government also allows employers direct input into the services funded by employer taxes. OEC is recognized as a state and national leader in creating opportunities and providing a voice for employers.
“The COEC is helping to make a difference in the lives of all Oregonians,” Tank said. “Being able to act as a liaison between local businesses and government – all for the betterment of our community at large – is extremely rewarding. I am proud to represent the citizens of Bend, Redmond, Madras, LaPine, Prineville and Sisters in an effort to improve everyone’s quality of life.”
Through its mission and services, the COEC enables Oregon employers and the Oregon Employment Department to identify and address local, regional, state and national workforce challenges. COEC initiatives include increasing employer awareness about issues that influence the economic health of Oregon and assisting businesses by offering educational opportunities that provide solutions to work force challenges.
Tank’s experience also includes positions at the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon. Tank is admitted to practice in Oregon, Alaska, U.S. District Courts in Anchorage and Portland, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon and graduated from the University of Oregon School of Law in 1988 (Order of the Coif). She served as Editor-in-Chief of the Oregon Law Review from 1987-1988. Tank has also served as a visiting foreign attorney in Brussels, Belgium.
“We are very excited to have Katie join our team,” said COEC local Chairman, Teresa Asher. “Katie’s vast experience in employment law as well as her knowledge and understanding of the Central Oregon region will be a tremendous asset to our organization.”
