Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt was recently recognized as one of Oregon Business Magazine's "100 Best Green Companies to Work For in Oregon." Schwabe was ranked as the state's 57th greenest company to work for overall.
Schwabe's commitment to creating a sustainable workplace developed into a core value for the firm in 2008 when it conducted a sustainability assessment in order to gauge its environmental impact. From this assessment, the firm established several goals including: decreasing paper usage per attorney by 10 percent; increasing the purchase of office supplies manufactured all or in part from recycled materials by 25 percent; developing an employee commuting initiative; working with vendors to change long-standing operational practices; creating energy reduction programs; and adopting a firm-wide climate change initiative.
The 100 Best Green Companies to Work For rankings were calculated by Oregon Business Magazine based on confidential employee surveys and a report completed by each company. The 100 Best Green Companies survey was incorporated into the 100 Best Companies and 100 Best Nonprofits surveys conducted last fall and spring. More than 20,000 employees at 431 companies and nonprofits participated in the survey that evaluated their sustainable business practices.
