Adventist Health—Investing in Employees and Healthy Communities

Adventist Health

Overview

Adventist Health is a faith-based, nonprofit integrated health delivery system serving 70+ communities every day in Oregon, Washington, California and Hawaii. Founded on Seventh-day Adventist heritage and values, it provides compassionate community care. Adventist Health is proactive in its approach to whole-person health and is dedicated to serving communities through wellness programs, hospitals, clinics and home-care agencies. To strengthen its ability to deliver optimal health, Adventist Health’s strategic plan includes initiatives that invest further in communities and workforce to ensure it remains a key player in care delivery on the West Coast.

One secret of the Adventist Health’s success is its productive and collaborative relationship with its medical staff. Adventist Medical Center in Portland recognized that its medical staff bylaws had not undergone a top-to-bottom review in many years and needed to be updated with respect to requirements by the Joint Commission and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. From credentialing to peer review, and quality assurance to fair hearing procedure, the hospital staff, the medical staff leadership and Schwabe counsel worked together to update and tailor a revised version of the bylaws to address the needs of the medical staff and to fulfill the hospital’s responsibilities to accrediting agencies. The result is a user-friendly, more compliant set of bylaws consistent with the hospital’s mission in the community.
