A brief reminder of an important deadline:

Since enactment of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act in 2009, HIPAA covered entities have had the obligation to file an annual online report of breaches of protected health information.

The due date is March 1, 2014.

Remember, even if a breach involved fewer than 500 persons, covered entities have the obligation to report these "small" breaches for each calendar year.
