Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt’s Portland office recently earned the gold level of certification from the Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability’s Sustainability at Work program.

In order to earn gold certification, the highest level attainable, Schwabe adopted 53 sustainable actions that save resources, reduce emissions and benefit the community. For example, the office has an expanded sustainability initiative that includes extensive recycling and composting, reduced water and energy use and carpooling, public transit and biking.

The commitment to creating a sustainable workplace developed into a core value for the firm in 2008 after the results of a sustainability assessment. The outcomes led the operational leadership to establish firm-wide goals to minimize impact. In 2011, the firm was honored with the Oregon State Bar’s Sustainable Law Office Leadership Award.

According to Director of Operations Dick Templeman, “Our actions demonstrate our community commitment to Portland, one of the greenest cities in the nation.”

Schwabe is now listed as one of the 100 Best Green Companies to Work For by Oregon Business Magazine and holds ranking of the 57th greenest company to work for overall.
