Since 2005, Shareholder Christopher Slottee has volunteered for the Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (ANDVSA), a statewide coalition providing legislative and legal advocacy resources for survivors. ANDVSA coordinates 23 programs across Alaska that offer survivors shelter, hotlines, and assault response teams. These services are critical, as a 2015 survey stated that approximately half of all Alaskan women experience violence in their lifetimes.

ANDVSA also helps with legal advocacy, community education, and rural outreach, with a legal program that relies on both staff and volunteer attorneys. Christopher has given his services to help survivors obtain orders for protection through the justice system and helped new attorneys learn how to litigate these cases in front of a judge. For his efforts, he was awarded the Alaska Attorney General’s Award for Pro Bono Service in October of 2020. This award is presented each year during Domestic Violence Awareness Month to an attorney who has dedicated a portion of their career to survivors of domestic and sexual violence with pro bono legal services.

Chris’s philosophy is: “Pro bono work allows me to make a positive, tangible, and immediate difference in people’s lives, and to help close the justice gap in some small way.”
