Litigation legal Assistant – Portland

Position Overview
The firm has an opening for a full-time experienced Legal Assistant in its Litigation Department in the Portland office. This position supports the litigation team for litigation in probate, protective proceedings and trust matters as well as administration support of probate, protective proceedings and trust matters. Schwabe offers a hybrid work environment.
This position requires 5+ years of experience with litigation, strong secretarial skills, strong computer skills, and a high level of organization and accuracy with attention to detail. The successful candidate will be able to turn work around quickly, possess strong oral and written communication skills, and be a self-starter who enjoys a fast-paced, team environment.
Essential Duties:
- Initial client intake for people needing help with probate and trust disputes, including protective proceedings of guardianships and conservatorships, which includes direct telephone communications with potential new clients
- Create shell documents and pleadings via Payne Forms
- Prepare documents for filing in State Court and filing
- Monitor court dockets
- Pull and prepare documents for trial notebooks (exhibits, bates numbering, etc.)
- Discovery and production organization
- Prepare electronic and hard copy trial notebooks
- Process legal documents for distribution and electronic storage
- Administrative tasks regarding reimbursement of costs and reports
- Manage attorney and paralegal calendars
- Docket of deadlines, hearings and trials
- PDF invoices and finalize monthly client bills
- Manage proformas as necessary
- Travel arrangements and scheduling
- Run conflicts checks and set up new clients and matters
- Proofread various types of documents and knowledge of grammar rules
- Transcription
- Perform administrative work including filing, typing, and special projects
- Implement and monitor cases in EstateWorks database
- Other duties as assigned
Required Experience and Competencies:
- Knowledge of Oregon State Court required and Washington State Court experience a plus
- Ability to develop relationships with clients, working closely with individuals and family members in distress
- Ability to manage multiple projects, activities and tasks simultaneously
- High level of organizational skills

Trademark Paralegal – Seattle

Position Overview
The firm has an opening for an experienced Trademark Paralegal in the Intellectual Property practice group in the Seattle office.
The successful candidate will have an ownership mentality with respect to his or her work product and clients served, possess a high client service acumen, engage in partnership with the attorneys and peers, and excel in a team environment. Strong computer research skills, a high level of organization and accuracy, attention to detail, and robust knowledge of U.S. Trademark laws and rules and the USPTO’s Trademark Manual of Examining Procedure and ID Manual are keys to success in this role.
Job duties will include:
- Conduct preliminary trademark clearance searches; review and analyze search reports and prepare memorandum of findings and analysis in connection with trademark clearance searches.
- Prepare trademark status summary reports for attorneys and/or clients.
- Analyze incoming correspondence and official communications and prepare draft reporting correspondence to clients concerning office actions, formality requirements, etc.
- Monitor and analyze trademark watches.
- Madrid Protocol filings, prosecution and maintenance
- Experience preparing and filing trademark-related documents, including but not limited to: Applications, Declarations, Assignments, Powers of Attorney, Responses to Office Actions, Statements of Use, Amendments, Post-registration filings, Requests for Certified Copies, Appeal Briefs, Filings with TTAB, etc.
- Experience preparing and filing copyright documents, including but not limited to: Applications, Recordations, etc.
- Ability to work with digital images and text files using Adobe editing software.
- Experience using USPTO’s trademark e-filing system.
- Experience managing substantial worldwide trademark portfolios.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients, USPTO Examining Attorneys and staff, Copyright Office staff, and foreign associate counsel.
A college degree plus at least five years of recent trademark experience is required. Any satisfactory combination of experience and education will be considered.
The salary range for this position is $80k – $90K depending on experience.
