On August 25, 2020, Schwabe Shareholder Matt Singer presented oral arguments to the Alaska Supreme Court for the case Resource Development Council, et al. v. Kevin Meyer, et al. – Vote Yes v. Resource Development Council for Alaska, et al., which can be viewed here

Singer represents a group of Alaskan trade organizations, including the Alaska Chamber, Alaska Miners Association, Alaska Trucking Association, Associated General Contractors of Alaska, Alaska Support Industry Alliance, and the Resource Development Council for Alaska.

Singer’s clients argued that the initiative should not appear on the November 3 ballot because the signature gathering campaign was done in violation of Alaska law. The initiative, called the Fair Share Act, would impose an alternative gross minimum tax on oil production on three legacy oil fields, and a tax on oil production value. The proposed law could drastically raise oil production taxes and is likely to lead to further litigation if enacted.
